Why choose a fibreglass construction?

It is difficult to categorize components produced using fibreglass reinforcement constructions. This is due to the many advantages given by choosing just such a solution. Fibreglass products are thus utilized in many different types of industries, with windmills and the boating industry being some of the best known.

Below are a few of the many advantages, which can be achieved by choosing a fibreglass solution:

- Great pliability
- Great strength with light weight
- Extreme corrosion resistance
- Fire resistance
- Chemical resistance
- High surface finish
- UV resistance
- Durable surface
- Sound and heat insolating
- No or very little maintenance
- Long product life

How is a fibreglass construction built up?
A fibreglass lamination usually consists of three (3) component elements. If one wishes to take advantage of the benefits of a sandwich construction, a fourth element is employed: sandwich materials.

1. Surface
Gel coat is used when a certain surface finish is required. Otherwise, a top coat is used when the exact requirements for a surface are of less importance.

Gel coat and top coat can be found with different qualities and in every conceivable RAL colour.

2. Polyester
As a filling material, polyester is most often employed, but vinyl ester or phenol can be used according to the mechanical and chemical requirements placed upon the fibreglass lamination.

3. Fibreglass reinforcement
Fibreglass comes in many different varieties, such as mats, specially weaved mats or more fluid patterns. The choice of fibreglass reinforcement typically depends on requirements for mechanical strength and the choice of production process.

4. Sandwich materials
The use of sandwich materials in a fibreglass construction is usually present when one wishes to achieve a sound and/or temperature isolating effect. Additionally, a sandwich construction gives great advantages when stringent requirements are placed upon weight and strength relations. As sandwich materials, PUR foam, XPS foam, PVC foam or balsa wood can be employed.
