the lifeguard tower

In the spring of 2009 Dansk Polyglas A/S initiated a cooperation with BBP Arkitekter, Force Technology and TrygFonden in order to develop a lifeguard tower made of a fibreglass sandwich construction. Tests of the prototype was such a great success that it leaded to a decision to start serial manufacturing of the Towers. In 2012 an extension module was developed for the towers in order to give lifeguards an opportunity to climb up higher and have a better view over a larger area. This extension was ensuring better safety for  beach visitors.

The Lifeguard towers are designed by the BBP Arkitekter and won the architectural competition in 1999 among 112 different architects. Furthermore, the Lifeguard towers has been nominated for the Danish Design Awards in 2001 and it has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.

In 2011 Dansk Polyglas A/S delivered a lifeguard tower in complete white colour to the most popular beach in the Copenhagen area Bellevue Beach, in order to match the general exterior on the beach, were the beach facilities are designed by famous Danish architect Arne Jacobsen.

On June the 22nd 2015 HRH the Crown Princess Mary, as patron of the Danish Swimming Federation, participated in the inauguration of the red-white lifeguard tower at the Tversted Beach (Northern-Jutland).

The Lifeguard tower is manufactured as a complex sandwich construction and consisting of many different materials. For instance, we have been using:

  • Seawater resistant and anodized aluminum
  • Acid resistant stainless steel constructions
  • Shockproof and scratch resistant windows
  • A fire resistant composite systems
  • A Special developed Topcoat surface which is highly UV-resistant and colour prove and thus it can last for many years

Dansk Polyglas A/S has delivered 38 lifeguard towers and 19 tower extension modules to the beaches around the co.
